Last year my buddies and I auctioned off a Derby Car to raise money to donate to The City of Hope for cancer research. While we were talking over some issues one day, my 8 year old son Tanner came up to me and pulled some money out of his pocket and put on the table. I asked him if he wanted me to hold it for him. He said “No Dad, I want to give it to those people you are talking about.” When I counted out the money it came to $2.64. Tanner does not know that his mother and I were diagnosed with cancer in 2008. We felt that at 6 years old he shouldn’t have to worry about our health. Tanner simply wanted to donate money to help “those people”! After telling this story many times to friends and family, the response was always the same… “You need to tell everybody that story, and do something good with it.” I decided to start a fund where anyone could donate, big or small, just as Tanner did. I thought for a few weeks of a name to call it with no success. Teresa and I were discussing this as we were getting ready to auction off the derby car, and within 30seconds she said “Why don’t you call it 264 A CURE?”
So…Let’s follow in Tanner’s footsteps! If a little boy who doesn’t really understand what cancer is or how it affects his own life can empty his pockets and donate $2.64, I think we all can!
LET’S FIND A CURE FOR CANCER…BEFORE CANCER FINDS US.
